ARCHITECTS • LFA DIGITAL 2020
The portrait was taken by Ivan in the London Aquatic centre, underneath the dive towers which were such an important and complex feature to realise. Fluid motion cast in stone, it involved much engineering inside, below and on the way to have them realised – which are all invisible now. At the moment of the portrait, I was acutely aware of how much it took to reach this result and how well they resembled the character of this building.
Eleven years later Zaha has passed away, but her methods and principles are deeply embodied in our daily work. We continue to redefine architecture in projects that capture imaginations across the globe. Marrying innovative digital design with fabrication methods, ecologically sound materials and sustainable construction practices. We don’t look only at the disparate parts, but work to understand them as a whole; delivering solutions to the defining challenges of our era. Form and space are woven within the structure of buildings that evolve from their surroundings and convey Zaha’s unwavering optimism for the future.
Now, having relocated to Hong Kong in 2017, I am developing one of Zaha Hadid Architects latest projects – 2 Murray Road which is currently under construction and set to be completed in 2023. Located in the heart of Hong Kong’s central business district, the 34-storey office tower will create an urban oasis within one of the world’s leading financial centres. Reinterpreting the structural form and layering of the Hong Kong flower, the tower is elevated above the ground, sheltering a landscaped drop off and a network of elevated walkways criss-crossing the site below, linking the project to the surrounding parks and the pedestrian walkway system of Hong Kong.
