LANDFORM is a time-based photographic series by Ivan Jones exploring the relationship between change and the passage of time across the shifting landscapes of Scandinavia and Western Europe.
Drawing on traditional Eastern art practices, meditation and an industrial North East upbringing shaped by accelerated human change, the work reveals a quiet, minimal and occasionally dark beauty in the subtle details of a much larger landscape. The project comprises a series of ongoing, interconnected bodies of work.
Ivan Jones is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores narrative through landscape and portraiture, informed by art history, environmental change, feminism, lived experience and memory. His work looks beyond the obvious to explore identity, place and the quieter narratives that lie beneath the surface.
His long-term projects consider how people and landscapes are perceived, often questioning familiar or romanticised representations. He is drawn to the details, histories and traces that might otherwise go unseen, creating work that invites curiosity and reflection, and at times evokes discomfort.
Born and raised in the industrial North East of England, Ivan moved to London before settling in Brighton. He graduated with a BA (Hons) in Photography in 1999. The contrasts between these environments, alongside the diverse experiences and people encountered throughout his life, continue to inform his outlook and photographic practice.
